The Story.
Innovator(s)
The problem is this year Kansas City, Missouri has had a dangerous increase in homicides. As of June 30, 2023, there have been 97 homicides. This is a 25% increase from this time in 2022. Kansas City, Missouri is on track to have the deadliest year due to the number of homicides. My solution includes our community, city council, law enforcement, and lawmakers to take accountability, increase surveillance, effective drug and firearm control, and limited alcohol access. These would show effective results by decreasing not only the number of homicides, but shootings, domestic violence, and disturbance calls. My main audience is the people in our community who holds the power to implement legal changes. The utility of my solution would result in criminals thinking twice about committing crimes because there is a higher chance of them being caught as well as having limited access to substances that has a higher influence on making poor decisions specifically during heated moments. The next steps needed would be to host a hearing with the city council and KCPD to present community survey results regarding the solutions.
