The Story.

Innovator(s)

Post COVID-19’s pandemic, the quality at Children’s Mercy Hospital’s waiting room has decreased. How so? Many items such as magazines, books, coloring utensils have been removed for infection prevention purposes. The solution to our problem is to integrate a unique activity in the waiting rooms that not only prevents infection, but rather engages the patient and their families. In order to do so, whiteboards will be placed, and upon check-in, patients will receive a sanitized dry erase marker and disposable eraser. Our main audience are children who need to alleviate stress before their appointment/surgery. Many kids who are young patients, may feel anxious upon such incidents. The next step would be to apply this solution to many waiting rooms at Children’s Mercy Hospital to raise awareness and inclusivity.

Decreased quality of waiting rooms at Children's Mercy Hospital post COVID-19 pandemic.

Solution

Whiteboards in waiting rooms and provision of sanitized dry erase markers and disposable erasers at check-in.

Target Market

Children needing to alleviate stress before appointments/surgeries.

Societal Impact

Provide stress relief and engagement for children waiting for medical services.

Next Steps

Apply this solution to more waiting rooms at the hospital.
