The Story.

Innovator(s)

We are BSI Pet Project and we are interning at KC Pet Project. During our internship, we observed a lack of awareness and diversity in KCPP programs, leading to more animals being admitted than adopted, limiting outreach and volunteer numbers. Our solution involves outreach to churches, and high schools for student volunteer hours. Churches target African American and Hispanic communities, while high schools reach a younger demographic, increasing volunteer numbers. Ministers and volunteers can encourage adoption and volunteering in churches and schools. The outreach plan aims to increase diversity of age, race, and awareness of KC Pet Project by sending emails to counselors and in-person talks from current volunteers. The primary audience is young adults and ethnically diverse communities. Next steps include obtaining approval to put yard sale-style signs and involving current volunteers in reaching schools and churches.
